Talisha Scates Cook: Carrying out Coach Yow’s legacy

This month, we recognize Talisha Scates Cook for her countless volunteer hours that have benefited the Fund.

Talisha played for Coach Yow from 1998 – 2002.

“Coach Yow was passionate about this mission and this fund so I have made it my personal goal to give my full support and efforts to it,” Talisha explained, when asked why she continues to live out Coach Yow’s legacy through the Fund.

For the 2021 Celebration Run/Walk, Talisha captained the “Kay’s Kids” team that included many former players and their families. Although they wouldn’t see each other in person, the former student athlete knew there would be power in numbers.

“Our opportunities to gather have been limited during the pandemic,” Talisha said. “Even though we were not able to come together on a larger scale, if we were able to encourage or inspire one survivor to keep pressing on, our mission was accomplished!”

Indeed their mission was accomplished with Kay’s Kids raising $3,363 toward the mission of the Fund.
“I feel appreciative, overjoyed, and grateful,” Talisha said. “We are each vessels of Coach Yow’s hope, and I think this past year has caused so many of us to stop to think about what is important.”
