During the final stages of her battle with cancer, Coach Kay Yow had a vision to unite a nation of coaches, players, and the women’s basketball community to do something for the greater good that far exceeds wins and losses on the court. Our mission is to extend and improve the lives of all women battling cancer by raising money for research and assisting the underserved.
Coach Yow believed we could make a greater impact as a collective team. She felt as if basketball coaches not only shared a profession but a community. Her public battle with cancer served as the platform to rally coaches to be a part of one team against one opponent—cancer. Coach Yow’s vision for the Fund encompassed not only her wish to fund cancer research but also her desire for coaches to enrich their lives by serving others.
Before her death, she also partnered with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and The V Foundation for Cancer Research to form the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to the fight against women’s cancers.
Since the Fund’s inception, $5.38 million has been granted for scientific research focused on women’s cancers thanks to the support of our donors.
