RALEIGH, N.C. (April 1, 2016) – The Kay Yow Cancer Fund® today announced the top fundraisers in each division for the 2016 Play4Kay® initiative. Play4Kay is the grassroots fundraising initiative of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Its primary fundraising support comes from women’s basketball teams across the country that dedicate an event to raise funds and awareness for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, an organization committed to funding women’s cancer research and supporting projects that assist the underserved community.
The institutions that raised the most funds in each division will be recognized on April 1, 2016 in Indianapolis, Indiana at the NCAA® Women’s Final Four and the Kay Yow Cancer Fund’s Wow 4Yow event.
The 2016 Play4Kay divisional winners are:
NCAA Division I (BCS): TBD
NCAA Division I (Non-BCS): Illinois State University
NCAA Division II: Lenoir-Rhyne University
NCAA Division III: Moravian College; Bethlehem, Pennsylvania
NAIA: Faulkner University; Montgomery, Alabama
Community College: Trinity Valley Community College; Athens, Texas
National K-12: Akin Elementary School; Hale Center, Texas
For the eighth consecutive year, Moravian College won the NCAA Division III title. For the third consecutive year, Trinity Valley Community College and Harrells Christian Academy raised the most funds in their respective divisions. For the second consecutive year, Faulkner University raised the most funds for the NAIA Division title.
“The 2016 Play4Kay fundraising initiative is a testament to the commitment the women’s basketball community has for the mission of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund,” said Kay Yow Cancer Fund Executive Director Stephanie Glance. “Coach Yow’s vision for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund and the Play4Kay fundraising initiative was to unite a nation of coaches and the women’s basketball community across the country, to do something collectively for the greater good, that far exceeds wins and losses on the court.
Since the Fund’s inception, more than $5.28 million has been allocated in support of women’s cancer research and serving the underserved.
